History
Val Mara is a municipality created in 2022 by the merger of Maroggia, Melano and Rovio, on the shore of Lake Lugano at the foot of Monte Generoso. Its name recalls the valley of the Mara stream, which shapes the area's landscape while lying largely outside the new municipal borders. Vineyards, lakeshore and trails toward the Generoso mark this corner of the Sottoceneri.
