History
Vacallo, in the Mendrisiotto on the border with Italy, is first recorded in 1335 as part of the parish of Balerna, before gaining religious independence in 1573. The Church of Saints Simon and Jude, built between 1646 and 1671, remains its architectural centerpiece today. The village spreads across a hillside not far from Chiasso.
