Orselina

History

Perched on the panoramic balcony overlooking Locarno and Lake Maggiore, Orselina is a pilgrimage destination thanks to the Madonna del Sasso sanctuary, founded at the end of the 15th century after a Marian apparition. A historic funicular links the village to the center of Locarno, opening up to everyone the view that stretches as far as the Brissago Islands. The sanctuary holds notable artworks, including a celebrated Flight into Egypt attributed to Bramantino.
