History
The eastern gateway to Locarno on Lake Maggiore, Muralto has housed since the early 20th century the railway station linking the Locarno area to the rest of Switzerland and to Italy. Its lakeside promenade, with gardens and Art Nouveau hotels, reflects the era when the town became a destination for international tourism. The Bosco Isolino reserve, shared with neighboring Minusio, preserves a strip of riverine nature.
