History
The main village of the valley that bears its name, Maggia stretches along the river amid vineyards and stone houses that bear witness to centuries of alpine rural life. Its parish church and the surrounding historic hamlets recall a past shaped by emigration to Europe and the Americas, on which many valley families depended. Today the Maggia valley, with its turquoise waters, draws hikers and swimmers seeking unspoiled nature.
