History

Lavizzara occupies the upper Maggia valley and was formed by the merger of villages strung along the valley up to Fusio, at the foot of the great alpine dams. In Mogno stands the chapel of San Giovanni Battista, a masterpiece by architect Mario Botta rebuilt after an avalanche destroyed the original building in 1986. Forests, alpine pastures and stone hamlets still recall the life of a valley long shaped by seasonal emigration.

Villages

This municipality was formed by merging several historic villages, each with its own postal code.
