Isone

History

Isone lies on the slopes of Monte Ceneri, in a wooded area that since the early 20th century has hosted one of the Swiss Army's main firing ranges, used for shooting training. The village, of pastoral origin, still keeps old summer pastures on the Alpe di Isone once used for grazing herds. Today its military presence coexists with chestnut and beech forests covering much of the commune's territory.
