Gordola

History

Gordola lies on the Magadino plain, at the mouth of the Verzasca river into Lake Maggiore, in an area once marshy and now reclaimed for farming and housing. Its historic core, set on the first slopes, overlooks the plain from above, while the village expanded lower toward the lake during the 20th century. The nearby Verzasca river, flowing down from the valley of the same name, has always shaped the landscape.
