History
Faido is the main town of the Leventina valley, set along the old Gotthard road that for centuries linked merchants north and south of the Alps. At the heart of the village the Piumogna waterfall plunges in a spectacular drop right beside the houses, a rare natural spectacle within a built-up center. Just outside town the Gotthard railway performs its famous spiral loops to overcome the valley's steep gradient.
