History

Collina d'Oro, which brings together the villages of Agra, Gentilino and Montagnola, takes its name from the mild climate and golden light bathing its slopes above the Gulf of Lugano. Writer Hermann Hesse lived in Montagnola for more than forty years, is buried there, and is honored with a museum in the Torre Camuzzi. Art Nouveau villas and olive-shaded gardens testify to the area's long-standing role as a retreat.

Villages
