History
Perched on a hilltop above the Mendrisiotto, Castel San Pietro takes its name from a medieval castle, traces of which survive in the village's place names. Merlot vineyards covering the slopes have made it a noted wine-growing area, and from its stone core the view stretches to Monte Generoso. The hamlets scattered across the hill still keep the look of farming villages.
