History

On the western shore of Lake Maggiore, at the Italian border, Brissago enjoys a particularly mild climate that made its botanical islands famous, now a public park. For decades the town was synonymous with Brissago cigars, made at the historic local factory founded in the 19th century. Stately palazzos and Baroque churches still testify to the prosperity the town gained from lake trade.
