History
The municipality of Breggia, formed in 2009 from the villages of the Val di Muggio, takes its name from the river that carved over millennia the spectacular gorge now protected as the Breggia Gorge Park, rich in fossils and geological evidence. The valley has long been tied to alpine pastoralism and the production of the valley's typical small cheeses. Stone villages such as Muggio and Caneggio still retain their old-time appearance.
