History

A small village on the shore of Lake Lugano, Bissone was the birthplace in 1599 of Francesco Borromini, one of the greatest architects of Roman Baroque. Squeezed between lake and mountain, the village is linked to the opposite shore by the long Melide causeway crossing the lake. Houses rising straight from the water and the memory of the great architect still shape its identity today.
