History
At the entrance to the Maggia Valley, Avegno Gordevio was formed by the merger of two municipalities along the banks of the Maggia river. Avegno was long known for its granite quarries, stone that built much of the region's historic architecture. The landscape, between the riverbed and the first slopes of the valley, still marks the transition from the Locarno plain to the Maggia Valley.
