History
At the gates of Bellinzona, Arbedo-Castione is linked to one of the best-known episodes in Swiss military history: the Battle of Arbedo in 1422, in which the Confederates were defeated by Milanese troops. Formed in 1975 from the merger of two municipalities, the area stretches between the Ticino plain and the lower slopes of the Val Morobbia. Still a crossroads of traffic toward the Gotthard, it retains traces of its long history as a land of passage.
