History

On the shore of Lake Lugano at the entrance to the Malcantone region, Agno holds one of Ticino's oldest monuments: the early Christian baptistery of San Provino, dating from the 5th century. Now home to Lugano's regional airport, the village was for centuries a small community of fishermen and craftsmen along the road into the Malcantone. The lakeside promenade and the delta of the Vedeggio river still shape its landscape today.
